Checks one EPUB (a directly hosted public URL or a file attached in the conversation) for accessibility using the pinned local DAISY Ace engine (axe-core WCAG rules rendered in a real headless browser plus EPUB Accessibility 1.1 discovery metadata), run in a network-isolated sandbox. Returns the automated verdict: pass boolean, Ace engineVersion and dated ruleProfileDate, wcagViolations grouped by success criterion (each rule with impact, description, and affected content-document/element counts), counts by impact, and the metadataConformance state for schema.org accessibility metadata (accessMode, accessibilityFeature, accessibilityHazard, accessibilitySummary). Use for one-ebook accessibility readiness and EU-Accessibility-Act preflight: 'is this ebook accessible', 'will it meet EPUB Accessibility 1.1 or the EAA', 'what WCAG problems does it have'. This is the accessibility question, NOT structural EPUB validity (that is the separate Ebook File Check with epubcheck), and it does not scan web pages. A pass proves only the automated subset (never full accessibility or legal EAA compliance), and human review of alt-text quality, reading order, and semantics is always required. Downloads and renders a live multi-megabyte EPUB and can take up to about 90 seconds.

Runs the identical pinned DAISY Ace accessibility evaluation over exactly two EPUB builds (directly hosted public URLs or files attached in the conversation, baseline first, revised second), then checks their package title, creator, and identifier before producing a remediation diff. Select it whenever the user supplies two EPUBs for a before/after or which-build-is-cleaner question; the tool reports not-comparable and withholds introduced, resolved, and ranking claims when publication metadata does not establish the same lineage. For comparable builds it returns per-build hashes, versions, pass verdicts, impact counts, discovery-metadata state, introduced and resolved rule lists, and a ranking by pass state then fewer violation instances. The ranking orders automated conformance only, never genuine accessibility or EAA compliance, and human review remains required. Each build downloads and renders a live EPUB, so the call can take up to about 100 seconds.

Read violationsState together with pass: not-checked means no content document was evaluated, while no-violations-found means only that pinned DAISY Ace found no failure it can automate. Fix critical and serious WCAG rules first and complete missing accessibility metadata, then rerun. Truncation leaves the rule list incomplete, and a clean run still requires EPUBCheck plus qualified manual review; it does not establish WCAG, EPUB Accessibility 1.1, or European Accessibility Act compliance.
A pass covers only Ace's automated subset and does not prove full accessibility or legal compliance with the European Accessibility Act. Human review is still needed for alt-text quality, reading order, semantics, and the reading experience; cross-book comparisons withhold remediation claims.
