standards_check
Validates one directly hosted public PDF against an explicitly chosen PDF/A, PDF/UA, or WTPDF profile using a pinned local veraPDF 1.30.2 engine after an isolated qpdf syntax preflight. Returns the exact automated verdict: compliant boolean, passed/failed rule and check counts, failed rules grouped by clause with object-context evidence, SHA-256 of the validated bytes, PDF version, page count, and engine versions. The user must name the profile. Never pick one for them. Automated conformance only: for PDF/UA and WTPDF accessibility profiles, reading-order meaning, alternative-text quality, semantic tagging, and usable interaction still require qualified human review. Checks finish in a few seconds for typical documents and always within 110 seconds.
standards_compare
Runs the identical isolated qpdf preflight and pinned veraPDF 1.30.2 validation over two or three directly hosted public PDF revisions against one explicitly chosen PDF/A, PDF/UA, or WTPDF profile, then compares the automated evidence: per-document hashes and verdicts, a difference table of failed rule identifiers and clauses with occurrence counts, and a ranking by compliant state then fewer failed checks. The user must name the shared profile. Never pick one for them. The ranking orders automated conformance evidence only; it never establishes visual quality, semantic correctness, accessibility, or archival fitness. Comparisons validate sequentially and finish within 110 seconds.

Scope and boundaries for PDF Checkup.
Select PDF/A-1b explicitly and validate the public IETF draft PDF, or compare its -00 and -01 revisions against that same profile; PDF/UA and WTPDF profiles can be selected when those are the intended targets.
Read the selected profile and compliant verdict first, then the qpdf syntax result and failedRuleSummaries. Compliant true means every automated veraPDF check for that explicit profile passed; fix structural syntax problems and failed clauses using the object evidence, then rerun if evidence was truncated. PDF/UA and WTPDF passes still require the listed qualified human review, and comparison rankings cover only the shared automated profile.
The user must choose the PDF/A, PDF/UA, or WTPDF profile; the tool must not infer one. Results are automated profile conformance only, not certification, accessibility, archival fitness, or legal compliance; PDF/UA and WTPDF still require qualified review of reading order, alternative-text quality, semantics, and interaction.
