Preflight one public page URL (or a direct manifest URL) for web app manifest validity and Chrome PWA installability before shipping. Fetches the page, resolves the <link rel="manifest">, fetches the manifest JSON, checks the implemented core-member set plus the documented Chrome install fields, then fetches and decodes each declared icon and screenshot binary with a real image decoder to prove reachability, true pixel dimensions versus declared sizes, and maskable declaration and dimensions. Reports pass/fail, the installability field set, per-icon reachability and decoded dimensions, and distinguishes manifest-not-linked from manifest-invalid, icon-unreachable from icon-wrong-size, and maskable-not-declared from maskable-too-small. It does not validate every manifest member or inspect artwork safe-zone placement, and it does not prove whether a specific browser or OS actually installs the app, whether it runs, or whether a service worker is registered. Each call live-fetches the page, the manifest, and up to 20 icons plus 10 screenshots, measures about one to three seconds, and is hard-bounded at the 110-second call deadline.
manifest_compare
Compare the web app manifest and PWA installability of exactly two public URLs under identical bounded limits: staging versus production, or before versus after an icon or manifest fix. Runs the same bounded manifest_check on each URL (page resolve, implemented core-member checks, documented Chrome installability fields, and per-icon fetch-and-decode) and reports side-by-side pass status, installability field-set deltas, per-icon reachability and true-dimension deltas, added and removed icons within the fetch cap, maskable declaration/dimension differences, and a ranking that names a winner only when the measured automated checks separate them, never a claim about which actually installs. Use manifest_check for a single URL. The narration leads with each deploy's own most severe installability finding and states the total difference count whenever it shows only the most severe few. Each comparison fetches both pages, both manifests, and their icons, measures about one to three seconds, and is hard-bounded at the 110-second call deadline.

Read pass and topFinding first. A pass means the manifest was reached and parsed, documented Chrome install fields were met, no error-level implemented core check failed, and every inspected icon decoded successfully; screenshot and maskable findings do not themselves fail the verdict. Fix the top finding and failed field or icon evidence, then rerun. Truncation limits the pass to fetched assets, and it does not prove service-worker behavior, real-device installation, or maskable safe-zone placement.
The checker does not validate every manifest member, assess maskable artwork safe-zone placement, verify a service worker, or prove installation and runtime behavior in a particular browser or operating system. Asset decoding is capped at 20 icons and 10 screenshots and may end at the call deadline.
